We're Movin' on Up!

Last week, Times Higher Education (THE) released its rankings of top 400 universities in the world. UC Davis has moved up 16 spots from last year, from 54th to 38th. Even better, in the THE list of the Top 50 Engineering and Technology Universities in the world, UC Davis moved up 10 spots, from 42nd to 32nd.

In fact, the entire UC System fared well in the Engineering and Technology rankings, though THE did note some concern:

“The University of California, Berkeley occupies fourth place while Stanford University, whose alumni include William Hewlett, David Packard and other electronics tycoons, takes fifth. Four other members of the University of California – Los Angeles (eighth), Santa Barbara (joint 16th), San Diego (24th) and Davis (32nd) – are also highly placed. The results come despite the funding crisis facing the State of California: only time will tell whether the institution can maintain its competitiveness.”

Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi said the new rankings “demonstrate clearly that we are on the right path to achieving excellence despite the continuing erosion of state support.”
