“Unique LLNL technologies and their applications in toxicology research”
Two unique capabilities at LLNL will be highlighted: accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) and the in vitro chip-based human investigational platform (iCHIP). AMS is an ultrasensitive analytical technique that measures radioisotopes with attomole sensitivity, which enables testing of environmentally and physiological relevant concentrations of target compounds. The long-term fate of triclocarban, an environmental contaminant, after perinatal exposure will be discussed. The iCHIP is a platform that enables non-invasive measurement of cell viability and function in rodent and human primary neuronal cultures. Its use for interrogating the neurotoxic effects of organophosphates will be discussed.
