The Biomedical Engineering Graduate Group accepts applications for Ph.D. and M.S Degrees. Successful applicants to the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Group in 2016 had an average Undergraduate GPA of 3.64 (out of 4.00) and average GRE scores of 84 percentile Quantitative, 77 percentile Verbal, and 64 percentile Written. Applicants for the Designated Emphasis in Biophotonics & Bioimaging (or any other affiliated DE – see Student Information for specifics) must first apply and be admitted for the Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering. Applicants for MD/Ph.D. degrees should seek further instruction from the UC Davis Physician Scientist Training Program.

2. Application Fee
An electronic application fee of $105 (U.S.) or $125 (international) is payable by everyone applying for admission.
3. Three Letters of Recommendation
Letters of Recommendation must be submitted electronically through the online application. Recommendations will not be accepted by mail or e-mail.
UC Davis requires academic records from each college-level institution you have attended. You will be instructed to upload scanned copies of your transcripts after you have submitted your online application. For more details visit https://gradstudies.ucdavis.edu/submit-transcripts. The minimum GPA required for admission to Biomedical Engineering at UC Davis is 3.25 on a 4.00 GPA scale.
5. Graduate Record Examination scores
GRE General Exam (verbal, quantitative, and analytical) required. Submit scores to School Code 4834; Department Code 1603.
6. English Language Requirement
Applicants whose native language or language of instruction is not English must take the TOEFL or IELTS. There is no conditional admission for applicants who have not earned a passing TOEFL/IELTS score. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is given by Educational Testing Service (ETS). Official score reports must be sent from ETS electronically to UC Davis (our Institution Code is 4834). The minimum TOEFL score required for admission to Biomedical Engineering at UC Davis is 100 for the Internet-based test and 550 for the paper test. Submit scores to School Code 4834; Department Code 45. As an alternative to the TOEFL, you may submit scores from the Academic Modules of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) designed by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate and administered by the British Council worldwide. The BMEGG Admissions Committee will review all applications submitted by the general deadline, December 15th. Applicants admitted by February 10th will be invited to the BME Recruitment Weekend in early March. Official notification of acceptance or denial will be made via e-mail from the Office of Graduate Studies after review of the BMEGG Admission Committee’s recommendation to the Dean of Graduate Studies. Applications submitted after the December 15th general deadline will be reviewed on a space available basis only.
