Job Opportunity: Radiochemistry Scientist

The Center for Molecular and Genomic Imaging in the Department of Biomedical Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of California, Davis invites applications from qualified candidates for one or more positions in the Project Scientist series. We aim to recruit an outstanding individual with the appropriate background and/or experience in radiochemistry, development of molecular imaging agents and cyclotron operation.

Candidates should have a PhD in chemistry, chemical/biomedical engineering, or related a field. A broad range of skills in PET radiochemistry or molecular imaging, design of PET radiotracers, preclinical studies, good interpersonal and organization skills, strong communication (oral and written) skills, and ability to work alone are required. Candidates should have at least 2 years of post-PhD experience.

The position is funded by the Center for Molecular and Genomic Imaging. It is anticipated that approximately 70-90% of the time will be spent in designing and implementing new radiochemistry methods and technologies, synthesizing PET radiotracers, assisting in operations of the CMGI cyclotron and radiochemistry facility, and contributing to grant proposals and manuscripts. The remaining 10-30% of the time will be devoted participation in the daily lab activities of the lab, training of other researchers (e.g., graduate students) in the scientific method, as well as coordinating or giving scientific presentations. Renewal of the appointment will be contingent upon performance and the availability of continued funding.

The Center for Molecular and Genomic Imaging (CMGI) is a UC Davis-designated core facility that provides resources for in vivo small animal and biospecimen imaging. It is located in Genome and Biomedical Sciences Facility on the Davis campus. The CMGI offers resources for a broad range of imaging modalities, including microPET, microSPECT, microCT (specimen and in vivo), microMR, and optical imaging. The facility also houses a biomedical cyclotron and radiochemistry facilities, and is immediately adjacent to a rodent vivarium facility. The CMGI is staffed with experts in animal handling, physiology, radiochemistry, imaging and image analysis. The center has a track record of engaging with projects involving investigators from all six colleges and schools at UC Davis (over 100 campus labs), and has an established training program for students and trainees wanting to learn in vivo imaging. The center also partners with the California National Primate Research Center, the UC Davis Mouse Biology Program Mouse and other major centers across campus.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering, the administrative department of the CMGI, is the newest Department in the College of Engineering at the University of California, Davis.
