Intra-operative OCT Imaging and Sensing Devices for Clinical Translation

Get Flyer

This seminar will report our recent developments of biophotonics imaging and sensing technologies including optical coherence tomography (OCT) for high-resolution tissue imaging, and coherence-gated Doppler (CGD) for low-cost and precise blood flow detection using audio feedback. We will demonstrate the potential of OCT for noninvasive assessment of transplant kidney function during surgery. This talk will also discuss various approaches to translate OCT to clinical practice by developing laparoscopic OCT, needle-based OCT, and combined MRI/OCT. Representative applications on renal and brain imaging will be presented.

Short Biography: Yu Chen, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland in the Department of Bioengineering.  He has over 50 peer-reviewed publications in the area of biomedical optics and its applications. His research interests include biomedical optical imaging, optical coherence tomography (OCT), optical coherence microscopy (OCM), diffuse optical spectroscopy and imaging, molecular imaging, early cancer diagnosis, and neuroimaging. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and was previously a research scientist in the Optics and Quantum Electronics group at MIT. He is a fellow in the American Society of Lasers in Medicine and Surgery and is the recipient of an NSF CAREER award.
