uc davis biomedical engineering about

Welcome to the UC Davis Biomedical Engineering Department!

Biomedical engineers are change-agents who work to improve people’s health and lives. At UC Davis, our students, faculty and staff make a real difference in the world.

Here in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, our research and teaching apply engineering and life-science principles and techniques to solving medical challenges, which translate groundbreaking engineering discoveries into positive, clinical and personal changes for patients. Our amazing students, faculty and staff create better, faster and more accurate ways to tackle health challenges like cancer and heart disease, repair and regenerate body tissues and design life-saving tools like vaccines.

Our work is all about collaboration: between students and faculty, between researchers and staff, and between our university and our community. Collaboration is one of the things that makes our department – and UC Davis – so unique:

  • We are proud partners of the No. 1 veterinary school in the world, the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

  • We work closely with the top-ranked UC Davis School of Medicine and Health Center. In fact, 25 percent of our own faculty also have appointments in the School of Medicine.

  • We are one of eight departments in the renowned UC Davis College of Engineering, all working together to build better lives for our community.

  • We are home to the Center for Molecular and Genomic Imaging, which features state-of-the-art medical-imaging tools.

  • We offer innovative research resources to all students, businesses and community members through our department’s TEAM BioInnovation and Mechanical/Electrical Labs.

  • Our Biomedical Engineering Graduate Group supports our many graduate students’ personal and professional success, as does our award-winning undergraduate chapter of the Biomedical Engineering Society.

Just as health is symbiotic, so is our unique UC Davis community. We encourage you to connect with us!

Best regards,
