Faculty and Research

Explore Our Research

Our faculty engage in a rich spectrum of advanced research at the molecular, cellular, tissue, systems and organism levels, as well as in clinical practice. Our faculty are difference-makers in their fields, working with researchers in centers, colleges and departments across campus to solve problems in health and biological sciences.

The diversity of faculty within the biomedical engineering program at UC Davis provides a wide variety of facilities and opportunities for research. Over 75 percent of our undergraduate students participate in research and our interdisciplinary graduate group is ranked No. 21 in the nation. by U.S. News and World Report.

We emphasize the translation of our research to clinical applications in human and animal health. Benefitting from the highly-ranked life sciences research environment at UC Davis, 25 percent of our faculty have dual appointments in the department and in the UC Davis School of Medicine and Health Center, and we are proud partners of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, the No. 1 veterinary school in the world.

Our faculty’s research is comprised of five areas of strength: bioimaging; biomaterials, devices and biomechanics; computational biology; education and molecular, cellular and tissue engineering.
