Computational and Synthetic Biology

Recent breakthroughs in biotechnology provide unprecedented access to genomic, proteomic and metabolic information. Computational biology researchers apply innovative computational methods to process, interpret and analyze these massive amounts of data. Our faculty model DNA, RNA, protein, and cellular behavior using computational tools and large data sets. These in silico predictions can be coupled with wet lab studies to confirm hypotheses. They can also be applied to design synthetic cells and tissues that harness functioning mechanisms in natural cells for drug discovery and therapeutic treatment.
