Program Requirements

The Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Medical Device Development (MDD) program is an in-person program that promises to accelerate the career development of aspiring engineers in all disciplines who wish to pivot into the exciting field of medical devices. Students will benefit from a carefully crafted curriculum and hands-on opportunities to develop new skills in medical product development, business and leadership, device fabrication and the engineering design process. Course Requirements

  • Students must complete the 12 course (36 units) in 9 months. 
  • Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 for the M.Eng. degree to be awarded.

Registering for Classes

  • You will register for classes using Schedule Builder.
  • MDD courses are only open to Medical Device Development majors.
  • Students need to register for classes by the 10th day of instruction.
  • Be sure to clear any holds on your record that might prevent you from registering.
  • Check the Registration Calendar to learn when you can start registering for classes. Graduate students that do not have a hold can register anytime once Pass 1 opens.
  • Additional tips for registering are provided by the Office of the University Registrar.
     

Milestones

  • Advancement to Candidacy- You must file for Candidacy at the end of Winter Quarter. The MDD program is a Master’s Plan II program. The program will send out instructions for completing the candidacy form in the Winter Quarter.
  • Filing to Graduate- You will file to graduate in Spring Quarter after your capstone project is successfully completed. To file for graduation, you will need to need to complete the Filing Process Form on GradSphere. Your Graduate Advisor will submit your Master’s Report Form.
  • Commencement Ceremony- Students that successfully complete the program will be able to participate in the Graduate Studies Commencement that takes place in June in Davis. Register for Commencement after your application for candidacy has been approved by Graduate Studies.

Most Graduate Studies forms (Advancement to Candidacy, Filing Process, Master’s Plan II Report Form, etc.) are submitted via GradSphere.
