Position Title
Graduate Lecturer
- M.Eng. in Medical Device Development
I am an independent educator, researcher, and engineering executive whose work focuses on commercialization of promising new medical technologies into regulated, widely adopted products. My industry and academic career have evolved in turns through the last two decades, pursuing my master’s and PhD programs after extended periods of practical industry work. With connections in both academic and industry, I frequently function as a bridge between these two vastly different ecosystems and have focused my formal research on the design and engineering challenges that occur in medical tech translation. I have also taught practical industry skills (including medical device design controls, manufacturing technologies and engineering strategy) through multiple campuses in the University of California system for the last three years.
In addition to my academic research and teaching, I have actively worked as an engineer in the start-up environment of Silicon Valley, CA for 25 years, both as an individual contributor and manager. This has given me extensive business strategy experience that I match with my in-depth engineering knowledge to drive both product and start-up organizations forward in a mutually productive manner.
