Job Opportunity: Postdoctoral Positions - Laboratory for Cell Nanoengineering (Professor Jinhwan Kim)
Description
We have an opening for two postdoctoral scholars with expertise in drug delivery, nanomaterials science, and/or cell-based therapies. Our Laboratory for Cell Nanoengineering serves as a bridge, connecting the goals of clinicians in the Department of Surgery (School of Medicine) with those of engineers and scientists in the Department of Biomedical Engineering (College of Engineering). The successful candidate will delve into the vibrant nexus of nanotechnology, cell engineering, and bioimaging. Key responsibilities include engineering therapeutic cells – such as T cells, stem cells, and NK cells – with functional nanoparticles. Additionally, the researcher will monitor these cells in vivo through non-invasive, longitudinal imaging techniques including ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging. Overall, central to our lab's endeavors is the design of nanoengineered cells by integrating cells, materials, and imaging tools, thereby aiming to enhance the promise and efficacy of cell therapies.
Qualifications
We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals possessing a strong academic record and teamwork skills. Candidates should either hold or be nearing completion of a PhD or MD in fields such as Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, immunology, or related disciplines. Particularly valued skills and prior experiences include:
- Nanomaterial synthesis/characterization
- Drug delivery/nanomedicine
- Regenerative medicine
- Immunotherapy
- Non-invasive bioimaging
- Image processing
Application
Prospective candidates should e-mail a comprehensive curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research interest (1-2 paragraphs, under half a page), and contact information for three references to: Prof. Jinhwan Kim (email: jjnkim@ucdavis.edu). Informal inquiries are welcome. Applications will be accepted immediately, and review will continue until the positions have been filled by outstanding candidates.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
At our lab, we prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion by valuing differences as strengths and actively addressing discriminatory behaviors. We strive to create an environment where all members feel comfortable being their authentic selves, while treating each other with respect, understanding, and support.
